The Molecular Nanoengineering Lab (Sakaguchi Lab) conducts research in nanoscience and nanotechnology, assembling atoms and molecules to create energy materials with high functionality and efficiency. The lab reacts and assembles organic source molecules on a substrate surface to develop new materials that have not existed before. The lab also evaluates the physical properties of these new materials and works on applying them to devices such as transistors and solar cells.

The Biomolecular Organization Chemistry Lab (Nakata Lab) is a new lab that started in April 2025. It develops chemical methods for organizing biomolecules and explores the new functions that emerge from organizing them. Making use of the energy utilization systems of living organisms, centered on enzymes, the lab organizes biomolecules for specific purposes to build new material conversion systems that use carbon dioxide as a resource, aiming to achieve 'carbon negative' through biological approaches.

The Energy Structural Life Science Lab (Katahira Lab) elucidates how proteins and functional RNAs involved in disease and in the pluripotency of neural cells work, based on the three-dimensional structures of the molecules. The lab also analyzes the structure and dynamics of inedible woody biomass and is developing new methods to extract useful substances that can serve as raw materials for bioenergy and products. Three-dimensional structures are determined using three nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers.
