The Chromatin Structure and Function Lab studies the structure and properties of chromatin, the form in which DNA is packaged inside the cell nucleus, to understand how gene transcription is switched ON and OFF. Using methods to assemble chromatin from DNA and proteins in a test tube, as well as cutting-edge techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy, the lab clarifies the molecular mechanisms of reactions from three-dimensional structures. The lab's website is that of the Kurumizaka Lab at the Institute for Quantitative Biosciences, the University of Tokyo. Professor Kurumizaka also holds concurrent appointments at the Medical Institute of Bioregulation and the Graduate School of Systems Life Sciences at Kyushu University.

The Allergy Defense Lab studies immune functions that take place in the central nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord. Its research keywords include central nervous system, immunity, cerebral infarction, γδ T cells, defense against infection, and IL-17A. In recent papers, the lab has used mice to examine immune cells in the brain. The lab belongs to the Division of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences at the Medical Institute of Bioregulation.
