We're preparing this lab's page. You can check its research on the lab's official website.

Eiki Takahashi, Professor
0 student voices
The lab develops disease-resistant animals and animal models of neuropsychiatric disorders, and uses these animals to study the mechanisms by which diseases occur. It creates animals that cannot be infected with herpesviruses or influenza viruses, aiming to lead to new treatments for viral infections. The lab also works on developing methods to create new disease model animals by genome editing, and on elucidating the epigenetic regulation involved in the development and differentiation of germ cells and stem cells. The lab's website presents it under the name "Laboratory Animal Science."

Takeshi Imai, Professor (Senior Chief Professor)

The Imai Lab, part of the Disease Information division, studies how neural circuits in the brain are built and how they work. The brain is a network in which about 100 billion neurons are intricately connected, and the lab believes that tracing its developmental process leads to the essence of the brain. Focusing mainly on the mouse olfactory system and cerebral cortex, the lab examines the activity and morphology of neurons under the microscope, and also develops its own observation technologies, such as methods for making brain tissue transparent. The lab is in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Kyushu University, and is in charge of physiology in undergraduate education.

Toshiharu Ninomiya, Professor
0 student voices
The Integrated Cohort Studies Lab is part of the Core Cohort Research Division of the Center for Cohort Studies. For more than half a century, the center has carried out large-scale cohort studies. In the epidemiological survey in Hisayama Town (the Hisayama Study), Prof. Ninomiya investigates the incidence and risk factors of dementia, hypertension, stroke, ischemic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and other conditions. The lab leads large-scale dementia cohort studies in Japan and also takes part in international collaborative research.

Jun Hata, Professor

The Community Cohort Studies Lab takes part in the epidemiological survey in Hisayama Town (the Hisayama Study) and studies the onset of lifestyle-related diseases and their risk factors. The lifestyle-related diseases it studies include stroke and ischemic heart disease. The Center for Cohort Studies, to which the lab belongs, has carried out large-scale cohort studies for more than half a century, following populations over long periods to explore the causes and treatments of disease. The lab gives lectures and provides supervision to students of the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine, and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences (Department of Medical Sciences and Department of Health Care Administration and Management).

Masahiro Kamochi, Professor

The Disease Cohort Studies Lab analyzes big data from healthcare and conducts clinical research aimed at preventing lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension. By combining clinical epidemiology with methods for analyzing healthcare data, the lab studies the relationships among patients' conditions, medical practices, prognosis, and medical costs, with the aim of finding the optimal approach to medical care. In its stroke disease cohort, the lab uses genome and proteome analysis to elucidate the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease and to develop new preventive medicine. The Center for Cohort Studies, to which the lab belongs, has long carried out cohort studies.

Takeshi Nakahara, Professor
0 student voices
The Environmental Cohort Division is one of the divisions of the Center for Cohort Study, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University, and is led by Prof. Nakahara. According to the Center for Cohort Study's website, it has carried out large-scale cohort studies (an epidemiological method that follows a population over a long period to investigate the causes and treatments of disease) for more than half a century. Prof. Nakahara specializes in dermatology and conducts basic and clinical research on elucidating the mechanisms of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis and on developing new treatments.

Tetsuro Ago, Professor
0 student voices
The Disease Analysis Science Division is a division in the Department of Advanced Cohort Research at the Center for Cohort Study, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University, and is headed by Professor Ago. According to Prof. Ago's researcher information, the research covers the mechanisms by which cerebrovascular disease, dementia, epilepsy, and headache occur, as well as tissue repair and functional recovery after brain injury. Prof. Ago also conducts stroke database research in collaboration with the main facilities in Fukuoka Prefecture that treat the acute phase of cerebrovascular disease. The Center for Cohort Study is a center that has carried out cohort studies for many years. The same center also has other divisions and departments.

Emi Oishi, Lecturer
0 student voices
The Basic Research Facility is one of the organizations that make up the Center for Cohort Study, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University. The Center for Cohort Study has carried out large-scale cohort studies for more than half a century. The Lecturer at the Basic Research Facility takes part in the Hisayama Study and in international collaborative research, studying the onset of lifestyle-related diseases and dementia and their risk factors.

Fumi Irie, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The ELSI Division is one of the divisions that make up the Center for Cohort Study at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University, and Associate Professor Fumi Irie belongs to it. For more than half a century, the Center for Cohort Study has carried out large-scale cohort studies that follow populations over long periods to investigate the causes and treatments of disease. Associate Professor Irie uses the Fukuoka Stroke Database, which compiles data from patients with acute stroke, to investigate factors that influence stroke prognosis. The lab also examines how stroke care should be provided to improve prognosis.
