The Ashir Lab researches and develops digital health to make healthcare easier to access, and to improve outcomes, in regions where healthcare is hard to reach. Through AI, digital twins, lifelong medical records, standardization of electronic health records (EHR), health risk prediction, and more, the lab aims for a data-driven healthcare system in which everyone in the world can receive care. Some research projects are carried out in collaboration with Grameen Communications in Bangladesh. The lab's website introduces it under the name "SocialTech Lab."

The Software Engineering Lab conducts research on automating the software development process and on software repository mining. The lab covers a wide range of high-profile topics in the software field and actively collaborates with researchers overseas. SE for AI and AI for SE, which deal with the relationship between AI and software engineering, are also among its research topics. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "POSL" and is also called the Kamei Lab.

The Intelligent Software Engineering Lab aims to build highly reliable and safe software systems using techniques such as program analysis and verification and software testing. The lab explores ways to deeply understand software defects (bugs) and to guarantee reliability and safety. It also studies methods such as automatic generation of program code and automatic repair of program bugs. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Pangu Research Lab."

The Humanophilic Systems Lab studies cyber-physical systems that stay close to people. Its core is human activity recognition using sensors (IoT) and machine learning (AI), and its work ranges widely from developing new sensors to implementing applications. One of its themes is recognizing not only outwardly visible states such as behavior and activities, but also inner states such as emotions and stress. Recently, as research that goes beyond activity recognition, the lab has been advancing behavior change support systems that use information technology to change people's behavior for the better.

The Intelligent Information Environment Lab studies how to use machine learning and deep learning to extract meaning and patterns from data, and apply them to information sharing, search, and recommendation. The lab originally studied frameworks for realizing "multi-agent" systems, in which multiple software agents, each acting on behalf of a person, work together cooperatively, along with their applications. Recently, it has worked on analyzing learners' reflective writing, analyzing movement data such as that from buses, and recommending products and places. On the lab's website, it is presented under the name "Mine Lab."

The Behavior Informatics Lab studies the intelligent activities people carry out in the real world, especially how learning comes about. The lab broadly measures information about the human body and environment with sensors, and develops data science techniques for understanding behavior and knowledge. Using environmental learning in natural settings as its subject, the lab aims both to understand how human intelligence comes about and to realize mechanisms that let people behave intelligently. The lab is open to students of the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering and the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation, and recruits students widely.

The Hacking Reality Lab studies human interfaces and learning support systems using technologies such as VR and haptics. Its subjects include supporting language learning, extending the body through haptics, and optical systems that float images in midair. Kyushu University's researcher information states that the lab is run jointly with the Arakawa Lab and the Mine Lab.
