3DPTec Integrated Center
Machine-translated · View original
A hub for manufacturing and creation centered on 3D printing.

AboutAbout the lab
Toward a near-future ultra-customized society through 3D printing.
The 3DPTec Integrated Center is a center attached to the Graduate School of Engineering, established in April 2026 as a hub for manufacturing and creation centered on 3DP (three-dimensional printing).
To the medical devices, aerospace components, and functional catalysts covered by its predecessor center, it has added future food, artificial organs, large offshore wind turbines, and art.
The center is run with the cooperation of researchers from the Graduate School of Engineering, as well as from SANKEN (The Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research), the University Hospital, the Research Center for Ultra-High Voltage Electron Microscopy, the International Center for Biotechnology, and the Nakanoshima Art Center.
Its mission is to pursue the underlying science, contribute to society, and develop human resources.
Key terms
- 3DP (Three-Dimensional Printing)
- A technology that builds three-dimensional objects by stacking material. Also called Additive Manufacturing (AM).
- Near-future ultra-customized society
- A society in which people can instantly obtain 'the things they want' at 'zero distance,' beyond the limits of space.
- Materials Integration
- A technological platform for materials development (MI). The next-generation version designs materials and processes starting from the desired performance.

ResearchResearch themes
The center aims to advance the science of 3DP and integrate knowledge from diverse fields to realize properties and shapes never achieved before. Aiming for its results to contribute to public safety and security, it sets the goal of a 'near-future ultra-customized society' in which people can instantly obtain the things they want.
*Illustrative imageDesigning Materials from Desired Performance
In a project the center takes part in, it is developing next-generation Materials Integration that addresses the 'inverse problem' of designing materials and manufacturing methods starting from the desired performance, and is working on innovative CFRP and powder and 3D additive materials.
*Illustrative image3D Additive Manufacturing of Ni-Based Alloys
As an R&D item of SIP Phase 2, the center is working on 3D additive manufacturing of Ni-based alloys, whose process conditions are difficult to optimize. It aims to actually manufacture and validate new Ni-based alloys discovered through process MI, in order to make combustion burners for power-generation gas turbines more durable.
*Illustrative imageBuilding TiAl Alloy Rotor Blades from Powder
As an R&D item of SIP Phase 2, the center is building and validating an MI platform that integrates materials engineering and information engineering, through industry-academia collaboration. The goal is to develop low-pressure turbine rotor blades made of TiAl, for which demand is growing, using a powder process that offers a high degree of design freedom.
Learning from Bone: Controlling Mechanical Functions
In a CREST project, the center studies how bone, with its hierarchical anisotropic structure, delivers optimal strength even in harsh environments. It aims to clarify the strengthening mechanisms at interfaces created by metal 3D printing and to create materials whose mechanical functions are deliberately controlled.
MembersFaculty
The members of the 3DPTec Integrated Center consist of the Director and Deputy Directors; faculty from the Medical, Future Food, Aerospace, Functional Catalyst, On-Site Fabrication, and Art divisions and from new areas; visiting faculty and visiting researchers; Project Professors and Project Researchers; technical specialists and technical staff; and administrative assistants. As of 2026

Ratings and reviews reflect the experiences of individual current or former students, not the lab's official views. Whether a lab has reviews, or how many, says nothing about the lab itself.
Students who take part in an interview may receive a thank-you gift worth ¥1,000, regardless of what they say.
