Wireless Communication Systems Lab
Machine-translated · View original
A lab that connects mobility in the air, on land, and underwater through next-generation wireless communication.

AboutAbout the lab
Connecting the future with next-generation wireless communication.
The Mizutani Lab aims to develop new wireless communication systems that will support the society of the future, and to create applications for them.
Its research covers communication and modulation and demodulation schemes with 6G and Beyond 6G in view, wireless communication other than radio waves such as acoustic communication, and the application of machine learning to communications.
Currently, the lab works on communication for three kinds of mobility: drones, vehicles traveling at high speed, and equipment operating underwater.
The lab was established in April 2025, and its first cohort of students joined in April 2026.
Key terms
- 6G
- The sixth generation of mobile communication systems, the generation following today's 5G
- Modulation and demodulation schemes
- The method of placing information onto waves such as radio waves (modulation), and the method of extracting information from received waves (demodulation)
- Mobility
- Vehicles that carry people and goods, and the mechanisms of movement

ResearchResearch themes
The lab aims to develop new wireless communication systems that will realize the society of the future, and to create applications for them. It pursues wireless communication that supports next-generation mobility in the air, on land, and underwater through three research projects.
*Illustrative imageCommunication supporting drone air routes
Toward dense drone air route networks that carry goods and people safely and efficiently, the lab aims to establish methods for designing the foundation of wireless communication systems that overlap in multiple layers in three dimensions.
*Illustrative imageCommunication between high-speed vehicles and transport infrastructure
The lab aims to build wireless communication systems for next-generation mobility, including vehicles moving at high speed, and for infrastructure support systems that aim for zero traffic accidents.
*Illustrative imageAcoustic communication for underwater mobility
Toward underwater mobility that is useful for securing, exploring, and managing marine resources and for developing and managing underwater infrastructure such as submarine cables, the lab aims to build next-generation underwater acoustic communication systems.
MembersFaculty
The members of the Mizutani Lab consist of faculty and doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students. As of 2026
