Yokogawa Lab
Machine-translated · View original
The lab works to improve the reliability and quality of equipment and systems related to energy.

AboutAbout the lab
Toward highly reliable devices and systems that support social infrastructure
Based on reliability engineering and quality management, the Yokogawa Lab studies how to make devices and systems in the energy field more reliable and improve their quality.
Through case analysis of accidents, life testing and life prediction of devices, and analysis of reliability and quality data from the market, it seeks to improve the reliability and resilience of products and infrastructure.
Prof. Yokogawa is a full-time faculty member of the i-Powered Energy System Research Center, and also holds concurrent positions in Class I of the School of Informatics and Engineering and in the Management and Social Information Studies Program of the graduate school.
Research topics are decided through discussion, and lab visits and interviews are accepted at any time.
Key terms
- Reliability engineering
- A field that investigates how failures occur and how long products and equipment last, so that they keep working for a long time without breaking down, and uses this to make them more reliable
- Resilience
- The ability of a system to withstand and recover from malfunctions or unexpected events
- Virtual Grid
- An internet-type autonomous decentralized energy system promoted at the i-Powered Energy System Research Center
ResearchResearch themes
The lab aims to improve the quality of devices such as storage batteries, solar panels, and power semiconductors, as well as of whole infrastructure such as power grids that integrate them, and to support stable long-term operation. Its key research themes are the reliability, safety, and resilience of energy systems, and reliability analysis of electronic and electrical devices.
*Illustrative imageReliability and safety of energy systems
Building on the "Virtual Grid," an internet-type autonomous decentralized energy system, the lab studies the component technologies for its reliability, safety, and resilience. It also analyzes sensing data on the environment and power consumption, and diagnoses the reliability of storage batteries using machine learning.
*Illustrative imageReliability analysis of electronic and electrical devices
The targets are electronic and electrical devices that require high reliability, such as large-capacity memory, storage batteries, and power devices. The lab studies methods for analyzing small data, in which few failures have been observed, by combining knowledge of physics and chemistry with advanced statistical analysis.
MembersFaculty
The members of the Yokogawa Lab are faculty members, visiting researchers, doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students, and a secretary. As of 2026

Ratings and reviews reflect the experiences of individual current or former students, not the lab's official views. Whether a lab has reviews, or how many, says nothing about the lab itself.
Students who take part in an interview may receive a thank-you gift worth ¥1,000, regardless of what they say.
