A research division that uses computers to uncover the properties of materials from the standpoint of quantum mechanics.

The Division of Quantum Condensed Matter uses large-scale computers to study a wide range of materials with different properties, including superconductors, insulators, and metals. By solving the Schrödinger equation, the fundamental equation of the microscopic world, the division explains and predicts the properties of materials and designs new materials with novel properties. The division treats materials as quantum many-body systems bound by Coulomb interactions, aiming to obtain knowledge that will underpin next-generation technologies. The division's page has links to the Yabana Group, Koizumi Lab, Tong Lab, and Hino-Maeshima Lab.
