A lab that explores the phylogenetic relationships of eukaryotes from gene sequences.

The Molecular Evolution field is part of the Division of Life Sciences at the Center for Computational Sciences and studies the relationships among the major lineages of eukaryotes. It has been proposed that eukaryotes can be divided into about six major lineages. Using molecular phylogenetic analysis based on the sequences of multiple genes, the field examines whether each lineage is truly monophyletic. The same approach is used to infer the evolutionary relationships among these groups. To make inferences with less bias, the field also studies phylogenetic analysis methods themselves.
