A research division that explores the atmosphere with computers, from global climate to urban climate.

The Global Environmental Science Division focuses on atmospheric science, conducting research aimed at a comprehensive understanding and future prediction of the global environment. Using advanced computer systems, it runs numerical simulations that cover everything from global atmospheric phenomena to small-scale phenomena such as urban climate. Using a regional weather model, it tackles unsolved problems in everyday weather, such as the urban heat island effect, localized torrential downpours, and the cap clouds and lenticular clouds that form over mountains. The Global Environmental Science Division is one of the research divisions of the Center for Computational Sciences, University of Tsukuba.
