The Biomaterial Chemistry Lab studies biomaterials such as wood from a chemical perspective and researches ways to utilize them. The chemistry of wood pulping and pulp bleaching is one of its research topics. The lab also works on biorefinery, the chemical utilization of biomaterials, and on trace analysis of wood components such as lignin. The lab was formerly called the Forest Products Chemistry Lab.

The Wood-Based Materials Engineering Lab studies biological materials such as the wood and reed cane used in musical instruments. By understanding the properties of these materials accurately, the lab aims to contribute to making high-quality instruments and to stress-free playing. Many of the woods used in instruments come from endangered species, so the lab is also developing alternative materials to replace them. The findings from this research are expected to be applicable to the manufacture of building materials and the making of crafts.

To enable the sustainable use of water resources, the Water Environment Ecological Engineering Lab conducts a wide range of basic research on the water environment as well as research on improving it. The lab investigates the mechanisms by which toxins and musty-odor compounds associated with algal blooms (aoko) are produced, and the amount of carbon taken up by microbes. It also works on water purification technologies that use microbial activity, such as biofilm treatment, and aeration with oxygen generated by electrolysis. On the lab's website it is introduced under the name "Utsumi Lab," and the latest news posted there is from 2020.

The Bio and Material Cycle Engineering Lab studies the development of photocatalysts and fermentation technologies that produce hydrogen and methane from waste. A photocatalyst is a material that generates strong oxidizing power when exposed to light, and can decompose and remove harmful substances such as endocrine disruptors, toxic exhaust gases, pesticide residues, and bacteria. The lab works on developing new photocatalytic materials that can use visible light such as sunlight and LEDs, as well as fermentation systems that use sunlight. It is also building environmental remediation systems that combine photocatalysts and microbes.

The Social and Environmental Systems Lab conducts research on the comprehensive evaluation of environment-related technologies and policies. Its listed research fields include numerical simulation and environmental economic policy, as well as the analysis and evaluation of the socioeconomics of production and consumption and its impact on the environment. Waste and recycling policy and international resource circulation policy are also listed as research fields. On the university's official page, the lab is introduced as a research field of the Environmental Engineering course in the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences.

The Sustainable Resource Management Lab studies how to manage resources sustainably, evaluating the environmental impact of waste and energy using methods such as geographic information systems (GIS) and life cycle assessment. The faculty member's research keywords include integrated waste management systems, renewable energy systems, and environmental technology innovation. The faculty member's co-authored papers include some that use overseas regions, such as Bangladesh and Myanmar, as case studies. In the college's faculty list, the lab appears under the field "Environment and Its Management" in the Environmental Engineering course.

The International Resource Development Economics Lab studies agricultural policy and economic development in the context of advancing globalization. It analyzes food consumption in developed and developing countries using economic methods, and examines agribusiness from the perspective of industrial organization. The lab's name, "International Resource Development Economics," is the name of a research field in the Social Economics Course of the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences.

The Forest Policy Lab studies how forest resources are managed in local communities, and how forest management relates to those communities. Its field is forest policy studies, which the faculty introduction also describes as forest resource sociology. The lab belongs to the Social Economics Course of the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences and is run by Associate Professor Katsuhisa Kohroki.
