Shigeru Fujimura, Professor
0 student voices
The Fujimura Lab studies next-generation production information systems for use on the manufacturing floor. Its central theme is production scheduling, which dynamically decides what to make, when, in what quantity, and how to make and sell it. Using real corporate problems as case studies, the lab examines how information such as orders, inventory, and progress should flow. It also studies how systems themselves are built, using software development techniques and agent technology.
Takayuki Furuzuki, Professor
0 student voices
The Furuzuki Lab studies computational intelligence, which imitates the mechanisms of living things, and its applications. It works with neural networks, fuzzy systems, genetic algorithms, and more, and in recent years has put particular effort into deep learning. Its central interest is how to apply these techniques to tasks such as prediction, classification, clustering, and optimization. Applications are wide-ranging, including pattern recognition, system identification and control, data mining, and financial analysis.
Mizuho Iwaihara, Professor
0 student voices
The Iwaihara Lab studies query languages and query processing, building on databases that store and efficiently share information. Because information on the internet is growing rapidly and becoming more diverse, the lab develops databases and web information systems that can cope with this. It applies fundamentals such as algorithms, graph theory, and logic to system development, and also considers new ways of sharing information from a societal perspective. It also emphasizes security and privacy protection techniques for sharing databases safely.
Seiichiro Kamata, Professor
0 student voices
The Kamata Lab studies image information processing and pattern recognition, from fundamentals to applications. Recently, it has focused in particular on research into image compression and biometrics. The lab focuses on space-filling curves, a type of curve from mathematical analysis, and develops image processing algorithms that use their properties and puts them to practical use. Its goal is to find methods that outperform current international standards such as JPEG and MPEG.
Jun Kameoka, Professor
0 student voices
The Kameoka Lab studies biosensors that measure information from the body and the IoMT that connects them to the internet. The IoMT rests on three technologies: biosensing devices, internet communication systems, and data processing in the cloud. The lab believes that combining these three will make it possible to detect abnormalities in patients with chronic diseases immediately and from a remote location. Beyond healthcare, applications are expected in fields such as agriculture, dairy farming, food safety, and water quality monitoring.
Yves Lepage, Professor
0 student voices
The Lepage Lab studies example-based machine translation and natural language processing. With the spread of the web, text written in the world's languages has grown rapidly, and the need to obtain information in other languages is increasing. The example-based approach in natural language processing aims to combine a low cost of application with the ability to generate language productively. The lab is clarifying the form of this example-based approach and applying it to tasks such as automatic generation of multilingual dictionaries, paraphrasing, and automatic translation.
Takafumi Matsumaru, Professor
0 student voices
The Matsumaru Lab aims to build better relationships between people and machines, and takes up the various phenomena that occur between the two. Its goal is to make systems that people have built friendlier and easier for people to use. The lab always keeps in mind the link between its research topics and real everyday life, and designs robots and mechatronic systems that are actually useful. It combines existing technologies to achieve the required functions, and also develops on its own the elemental technologies that do not yet exist.
Osamu Yoshie, Professor
0 student voices
The Yoshie Lab researches the development and use of information technology that supports manufacturing, a field in which Japan excels. Using networks such as the Internet, it collects the various kinds of information needed for production and organizes it into forms that people can use easily. To this end, it designs intelligent software that uses artificial intelligence, and methods that let people and software interact naturally. The lab pursues both practicality, so that its work can actually be used on production floors, and novelty, so that it changes production methods and ways of doing business.
Yuya Ieiri, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Ieiri Lab explores forms of interaction centered on people, society, and culture. As information and communication technology and artificial intelligence advance, new gaps sometimes arise between technology and people's values, culture, and relationships with one another. The lab therefore aims to create information systems and design methods that help technology and people build better relationships. Moving back and forth between theory and demonstration in real-world field settings, it pursues both the novelty of technology and its practical usability.
