Kyoko Kawagishi, Visiting Professor
0 student voices
The Kawagishi Lab studies various ultra-heat-resistant materials, including high-performance Ni-based superalloys. The aim is to raise the thermal efficiency of next-generation jet engines and ultra-high-efficiency combined cycle power generation, and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The lab is establishing materials design methods and advancing the development of low-cost, high-performance alloys. This is a field run in collaboration with the National Institute for Materials Science, and research is conducted under a cooperative graduate school system.

Shoko Hiromoto, Visiting Professor
0 student voices
The Hiromoto Lab studies how to control the corrosion of magnesium alloys through surface treatment. Magnesium alloys are expected to serve as lightweight structural materials for transport equipment such as automobiles, and they are also attracting attention as materials for fixing bone and as stents for blood vessels. Aiming for coatings whose corrosion resistance and functions suit the environment of use, the lab is developing low-environmental-impact oxide coatings for structural materials and composite coatings of polymer and calcium phosphate for biomedical use. The lab belongs to a field run in collaboration with the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), and its research is conducted under a cooperative graduate school program.

Nilson Kunioshi, Professor
0 student voices
The Kunioshi Lab uses quantum chemical calculations to clarify the mechanisms of chemical reactions at solid-gas interfaces. Its current focus is the process by which single crystals of semiconductor silicon grow in chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The lab analyzes a series of reactions, including reactions among gases, adsorption of gas molecules onto solid surfaces, and reactions in which chlorine leaves the surface. In addition to determining the reaction kinetics and rate constants of each step in order to understand and optimize the whole process, the lab is also studying the relationship between language and culture in the words used in science and engineering lectures.
