A lab that makes the invisible geosphere environment visible and diagnoses it comprehensively.

The Kawabe Lab deals with problems in the geosphere environment that cannot be seen, such as soil and groundwater contamination. For problems occurring in many places around the world, it studies remediation methods that are as environmentally friendly as possible, together with risk assessment for people and ecosystems. In particular, for naturally occurring heavy metals, it traces the underlying mechanisms and works to prevent their spread to surrounding areas and reduce risk. The lab also studies the effective use of waste such as volcanic ash and pumice, and carbon dioxide fixation using rocks and soil.
