The Plant Cell Function Lab studies the mechanisms that support plant growth and survival at the molecular, cellular, and tissue levels. The Ueguchi Group uses Arabidopsis thaliana to study the shoot apical meristem, which maintains stem cells while producing cells that become leaves and flower buds. The Takeda Group mainly uses rice to study, among other topics, how the function of the growing point is maintained under environmental stress.

The Integrative Plant Physiology Lab studies the mechanisms of the plant circadian clock (internal clock) from a molecular science perspective. Plants adapt remarkably well to the cyclical environmental changes of the "day" and the "year" created by the Earth's rotation and revolution. The lab aims to understand and control the circadian clock mechanisms that are deeply involved in this adaptation. In recent years, it has become clear that mutations in clock-related genes alter flowering time and growth, and in this way contribute to regulating the cultivation period and growing regions of major cereal crops.

The Animal Cell Function Lab studies the roles of glycans on the cell surface, focusing on animal cells. Glycans are substances involved in interactions between cells, such as cells coming together to form tissues and organs, and recognizing cells that come from outside. Using biochemistry and molecular cell biology, the lab investigates the roles glycans play in fertilization, early development, nervous system and brain function, and inflammation, as well as the diverse structures of sialic acid, which sits at the ends of glycans. On the lab's website, it is introduced as the Animal Cell Function Lab of the Institute for Glyco-core Research (iGCORE), Nagoya University.
