Noriko Tanaka, Professor
0 student voices
Tanaka Lab studies the effects of physical activity and exercise on maintaining and improving health, mainly from the perspective of body composition. The lab investigates how the amount and distribution of skeletal muscle and fat relate to health risks and physical fitness. Its research covers a wide range of subjects, including children, young adults, middle-aged adults, older adults, and athletes. Students can join this lab from the graduate school level.
Hiroshi Akima, Professor
0 student voices
Professor Hiroshi Akima's sports physiology lab studies morphological and functional changes in human skeletal muscle. Using 1H-MRS, MRI, and ultrasound imaging, the lab evaluates fat distributed in a marbled pattern within muscle, and also investigates muscle characteristics in older adults using muscle echo intensity from ultrasound images. Students from other fields such as physical therapy, as well as those from health and sports science, can be accepted after an interview. Students can join this lab starting at the graduate level.
Takamasa Mizuno, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Mizuno Lab studies how conditioning, including stretching, affects physical function. Through objective evaluation using isokinetic dynamometers, muscle strength testers, ultrasound imaging systems, electromyography, and electrical stimulators, the lab aims at applications in sports, health, and wellness. Based on exercise physiology and biomechanics, the lab objectively and quantitatively evaluates joint flexibility and muscle-tendon stiffness. Students can join this lab starting at the graduate level.
