The Innovative In Vivo Visualization Technology Development Industry-Academia Collaborative Research Lab aims to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and artificial intelligence to obtain quantitative information on biological tissues, such as the central nervous system, with high accuracy. Its main target is to clarify the shape and movement of the interstitial spaces of the central nervous system. The endolymphatic system of the inner ear is also a subject of study, and the lab is exploring the conditions for objective, automated evaluation using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The Nursing Systems and Care Development Lab conducts research that measures and analyzes the body's signals and images and applies the findings to nursing care, such as support for excretion and improvement of lifestyle habits. Professor Ikumi Honda studies how to capture colonic movement with a lightweight, compact device that measures intestinal electrical potentials, predict bowel movements, and apply this to excretion care. Associate Professor Natsuki Nakayama explores nursing interventions suited to each individual, based on image analysis of carotid ultrasound and measurements of sleep and autonomic nervous activity.
Kazuki Sato, Professor

The Advanced Practice Nursing Development Lab studies nursing and medical care that support patients with cancer and patients at the end of life, along with their families. Professor Kazuki Sato uses healthcare big data to investigate where terminally ill cancer patients across Japan receive care and what medical care they receive. Lecturer Kyoko Ishida specializes in the practice of cancer nursing and palliative care, and studies support for patients with cancer of unknown primary and their families.

The Community and Home Care Nursing section of the Community-Based Integrated Care Development Nursing field conducts education and research on providing support that respects the wishes and hopes of people receiving care at home and their families. The people receiving care include children, such as children with medical care needs. Research perspectives are diverse, including cancer, intractable diseases, dementia, age-related changes, medical care, interprofessional collaboration, and team care. The settings and forms of support under study are also varied, including nursing in hospitals, daily-life support in facilities for older adults and people with disabilities, and support for family caregivers. The lab investigates them together with undergraduate and graduate students.

The Creative Physical Therapy lab conducts research on developing advanced assessment and treatment methods that lead to health promotion, prevention of worsening and recurrence, and rehabilitation. It aims to contribute to the creation of new physical therapy in the areas of frail older adults, neurological, musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, and metabolic conditions, cancer, and sports. A research exchange meeting between the health sciences departments of Nagoya University and Yonsei University in Korea is held every year, where graduate students take part and present their research results in English. The lab also promotes interdisciplinary research on digital health, robotics, and regenerative medicine.

The Occupational Therapy Science Unit aims to train researchers and advanced professionals who can contribute internationally to the development of science, technology, and R&D in rehabilitation and occupational therapy. To meet the special needs that arise from disability, it advances basic research, clinical research, and creative development, drawing on the interdisciplinary perspective of health sciences. In the master's program, students study highly specialized occupational therapy from the broad perspective of health sciences, and also acquire the research skills needed to advance EBM (evidence-based medicine). The doctoral program aims to train international researchers who can disseminate and further develop their research results.
