The lab of Organ Pathology Diagnostics / Pathological Structure Analysis (Clinical Laboratory Medicine) works on pathological diagnosis and on research based on it. Starting from observing the lesions themselves, the lab carries out training in pathological diagnosis through the abundant cases of the university hospital, as well as clinicopathological research using those cases. Using methods such as genetic analysis of pathological tissue specimens, the lab aims to get at the essential nature of disease. Members are expected to build broad knowledge rather than stay within a narrow specialty, taking a cross-departmental view and collaborating with other departments and other universities.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation provides advanced, safe perioperative care through surgical anesthesia, intensive care, and pain clinic, and also puts a strong emphasis on research. Research themes range widely from basic to clinical, including blood flow analysis, the effects of anesthetics, fibrosis, chronic pain, and perioperative anaphylaxis. Research conferences and journal clubs are held, along with an international research conference with Columbia University in the United States. Regardless of research experience, the lab has a support system for turning the "whys" that arise in clinical practice into research, and it also supports study abroad.

The Clinical Infection Control Lab studies infections that occur in hospitals, along with infection control measures and the use of antibiotics. The lab's website is published as the website of the Central Infection Control Unit, Nagoya University Hospital. Lecturer Hiroshi Morioka studied healthcare-associated infections and how antimicrobials are used, through a cross-sectional epidemiological study of inpatients at many hospitals in Aichi Prefecture. Comparing 2021 and 2023, the number of days of administration of antibiotics active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa fell by about 8–9%, both at hospitals that took part in the survey and at those that did not. Professor Tetsuya Yagi led research groups on infection control in healthcare facilities and on infection control of drug-resistant bacteria through regional collaboration, and compiled a handbook on hospital infection control and a guide to countermeasures against drug-resistant bacteria.

The Department of Emergency Medicine and the EMICU at Nagoya University Hospital provide care for critically ill patients and conduct research. The EMICU is a closed ICU in which the emergency department manages the whole body, and it treats critically ill patients, from adults to children, whom other hospitals have difficulty managing. For conditions such as severe heart failure, there is extensive experience to be gained in management using circulatory support devices, including ECMO. Research centers on clinical research, and the lab has a system in place that allows people to take part in education and research according to their wishes.
