Masao Tabuchi, Professor
0 student voices
The Tabuchi Lab studies applications of synchrotron radiation to materials science, in particular synchrotron radiation measurement centered on the XAFS method. Research begins with learning what XAFS is and what can be learned from measurements that use synchrotron radiation. Currently, the lab aims to realize measurements that quickly make the chemical state of materials visible in 2D and 3D, using a new method that simultaneously measures transmission images at multiple energies. As part of the Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, the lab also explores research and measurement possibilities that make use of the Aichi Synchrotron Radiation Center (Aichi SR).

Yoshifumi Takashima, Professor

The Takashima-Ito Lab works on a compact electron accelerator that generates synchrotron light, as well as the beamlines and measurement instruments used to make use of that light. It also takes as a research theme the use of light to clarify the electronic states of various materials. On the organization page of Nagoya University's Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, Professor Yoshifumi Takashima is listed under the light source division, and Associate Professor Takahiro Ito under the Synchrotron Radiation Utilization Research Division.

The ASBiM Group uses X-ray crystal structure analysis to study the structure and function of proteins involved in photosynthesis. Its main subject is phycocyanin, an antenna protein that cyanobacteria use to collect light. The group has studied, at the atomic level, how ions of heavy metals such as mercury and lead interfere with the function of this protein. Currently, it is investigating how light energy is collected and transferred within phycocyanin, using methods that track changes over very short times.
