Satoru Yoshida, Project Professor
0 student voices
Project Professor Yoshida's lab studies weather phenomena that cause major damage to society, such as lightning discharge and linear rainbands. The lab develops its own instruments applying remote sensing technologies such as electromagnetic wave observation, and bases its research on observations made with those instruments. Project Professor Yoshida joined the Center for Environmental Remote Sensing in July 2026. The professor says the lab will pursue research that clarifies the mechanisms of lightning discharge and linear rainbands through instrument development and observation, as well as research on the use of observational data and its social implementation.

Yoshiya Touge, Associate Professor
0 student voices
Associate Professor Touge's lab studies disasters caused by dryness, such as wildfires, and water resource management, drawing on knowledge from hydrology. In recent years, even Japan, with its humid climate, has seen large-scale wildfires under extreme dryness. The lab investigates, under the name "fire hydrology," both the environmental factors that make fires start and grow large, and the secondary disasters that follow fires, such as those caused by heavy rain and fallen trees. It advances understanding of these phenomena through field observation and numerical analysis, and aims to put the research to use in society by working together with diverse people such as government officials and citizens.
