Research toward the clinical application of human iPS cells is now moving into full swing. To advance this research both quickly and soundly, the cooperation and understanding of society, starting with the people who take part in the research, are essential. The Fujita Lab investigates ethical regulations and policies in Japan and abroad, as well as public attitudes and actual practices, concerning the challenges of regenerative medicine and cell therapy, chimeric animals made with human iPS cells, and germ cells derived from iPS cells. It works to organize the ethical, legal, and social issues involved and to propose ways of addressing them.

Jusaku Minari, Associate Professor

Advanced life sciences such as iPS cell research and genome research are making great progress. For practical application, it is necessary to consider not only the scientific research itself but also its impact on society. The Minari Lab values social perspectives and diversity of opinion, and considers how the benefits of advanced life sciences can be delivered to (future) society.
