Hiroshi Ashida, Professor
0 student voices
The Vision Science Lab studies human sensation and perception, centered on vision, using the methods of experimental psychology. Perceptual phenomena such as visual illusions are analyzed through psychophysical experiments and considered together with measurements of brain function using fMRI and other methods. Assistant Professor Daiki Yamasaki's research areas are vision, audition, and multisensory perception. Research themes have been decided to match students' interests, but themes that are related to visual perception in some way are expected.
Hika Kuroshima, Professor
0 student voices
The Comparative Cognitive Science Lab compares how the mind works across the diverse animal species alive today, in order to understand the diversity of minds and trace the path of their evolution. Professor Hika Kuroshima studies social cognition, emotion, metacognition, and self- and other-understanding in monkeys, birds, rodents, and companion animals. Kyoto University CAMP (Companion Animal Mind Project), which explores the minds of dogs and cats, is recruiting pet owners and others willing to help with its surveys.
Yusuke Moriguchi, Professor
0 student voices
The Moriguchi Lab's mission is to clarify the differences between the cognitive worlds of children and adults, and to examine and support the development of cognition and sociality that leads to children's futures. So far, the lab has studied the development of executive function, emotion regulation, imagination, visual awareness, and creativity in infants, young children, and school-age children. It uses methods from developmental psychology and developmental cognitive neuroscience, including behavioral observation, behavioral experiments, eye tracking, and physiological and brain function measurements. The lab is recruiting graduate students interested in developmental psychology, cognitive development, and brain development, including those from diverse backgrounds such as linguistics, biology, engineering, and mathematics.
WILSON Duncan, Lecturer
0 student voices
The Wilson Lab uses experimental methods from human psychology to study the relationship between cognition and emotion in non-human primates. Its fields are comparative psychology, primatology, ethology, and animal welfare, with attention, face recognition, and facial expressions as key research topics. Duncan Wilson, Lecturer, teaches courses on comparative psychology and on primate behavior and cognition. Students join this lab at the graduate level, conducting research as graduate students in the Psychology Program of the Graduate School of Letters.
Nobuhito Abe, Professor
0 student voices
The Abe Lab focuses on the psychological and neural mechanisms of human decision-making. Centered on imaging of brain function and structure with fMRI and other methods, and on neuropsychological studies of patients with brain damage, the lab also combines behavioral experiments and field studies. Focusing on human decision-making, the lab covers a broad range of topics including sociality and morality, and aims to take a multifaceted approach that is not bound by disciplinary boundaries. Students join this lab at the graduate level. It accepts graduate students in the Psychology Program of the Graduate School of Letters, where Prof. Abe serves as a cooperating faculty member.
