The Perceptual Psychology Lab conducts experimental research using psychophysical methods to investigate the visual information processing involved in depth perception. Working on themes such as binocular stereopsis, motion perception, and perceptual transparency, the lab aims to discover new perceptual phenomena and to model visual information processing, including the oculomotor system. The lab is involved in education and research in the Psychology Specialization of the Human Science Course, Department of Humanities, Faculty of Humanities at the undergraduate level, and in the Psychology Course, Department of Behavioral Systems, Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies at the graduate level.

The lab experimentally studies the mental processes that give rise to people's subjective perception and behavior, mainly through the lens of time. Through research on the evaluation of elapsed time, the temporal integration of sensory information, and the perception of motion, the lab aims to uncover the mental foundations that support people's stable experience. The lab's website presents a wide range of research topics by alumni of its undergraduate and graduate programs, such as the relationship between impressions of people and color images, and the relationship between the emotion of cuteness and the useful field of view.

The lab studies the theory and application of the statistical methods used in developing psychological tests. The statistical methods it is interested in are item response models using latent variables, factor analysis models, and structural equation modeling. In applied research, it focuses on developing test systems that use item response models, especially computerized adaptive testing.
