The Atmosphere-Ocean Interaction Lab studies the role the ocean plays in climate change and global warming through its interaction with the atmosphere. Its main research methods are statistical data analysis using ship-based observations, satellite observations, and atmosphere-ocean reanalysis data, and numerical simulation using climate models. Using these methods, the lab works on elucidating mechanisms and on prediction studies, ranging from tropical phenomena such as El Niño to long-term climate change. The lab's website uses the name "Ocean Environmental Physics Lab" and also introduces the research of Associate Professor Ichikawa.

The Atmospheric Physics Lab is a meteorology lab that studies the physics of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation. The lab analyzes data from satellite, ship-based, and ground-based cloud radars and lidars to investigate how clouds and aerosols affect the Earth's climate and water cycle. The lab promotes the EarthCARE project, a joint Japan–Europe satellite mission, and also works on developing data analysis methods and observation instruments. To join this lab, students must take the entrance examination for the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Environmental Systems in the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences at Kyushu University.

The Atmospheric Environment Modeling Lab studies the behavior of atmospheric environmental phenomena such as PM2.5, photochemical oxidants, and Asian dust, with a focus on East Asia. The lab combines numerical model simulations with the latest satellite and ground-based observations. The lab also works on data assimilation, which integrates observations and simulations. The lab conducts research and education as part of the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics and the Earth Environmental Science and Engineering Major of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences.

The Ocean Dynamics Analysis Lab focuses on fieldwork using research vessels and moored instruments to clarify the mechanisms of seawater circulation from a dynamical perspective. In collaboration with research institutions in Japan and abroad, the lab studies seawater circulation and mixing in the marginal seas of East Asia. According to the lab's website (around 2014), its research also covers the effects of global warming and climate change on the marine environment of marginal seas and coastal areas, as well as the flow and mixing of seawater in inner bays and coastal areas. The lab's website also introduces it under the name "Ocean Circulation Dynamics Lab."

The Ocean Circulation Dynamics Lab studies how the ocean circulates, aiming to explain these mechanisms in terms of dynamics. Centered on in situ observations using research vessels and moored instruments, the lab carries out its research in collaboration with research institutions in Japan and abroad. The lab's members conduct their own observations and analyze the results. The lab's website introduces the Ocean Dynamics Analysis Lab and the Ocean Circulation Dynamics Lab (Ocean Circulation Dynamics Laboratory) together.

The Ocean Remote Sensing Lab investigates ocean variability by analyzing in situ observational data from ships and drifting buoys together with satellite observations. The vast ocean has a major impact on the global environment through phenomena such as El Niño and global warming, but much of its actual state remains unknown even today. Aiming to discover new facts from observational data, the lab studies the role the ocean plays in global environmental variability. The lab's website is shared with the lab seminar of Professor Hiroki Tokinaga in the same Global Environmental Dynamics Division, and is presented under the name "Ocean Environmental Physics".

The Atmospheric Dynamics Lab uses numerical models and analysis of meteorological data to study the effects of the seas around Japan on weather and climate, as well as the motion of planetary atmospheres. Its research includes studies of the development of low-pressure systems and fronts around Japan, and studies of winds and waves on planets such as Venus using atmospheric general circulation models. The lab's website is shared with the Atmospheric Physics Lab in the same Global Environmental Dynamics Division. Graduate students are enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, where they receive supervision on atmospheric dynamics topics ranging from weather around Japan to the general circulation of planetary atmospheres.

The Atmospheric Radiation Lab investigates the properties of clouds and atmospheric particles using observations from radar and lidar carried on satellites. Using data from active sensors such as millimeter-wave Doppler radar and high-resolution lidar, including the Japan-Europe joint satellite mission EarthCARE, the lab develops analysis techniques that extract the three-dimensional distribution of clouds and their radiative properties. The lab's website is that of the Atmospheric Physics Lab in the Earth Environmental Dynamics Division, and the Atmospheric Radiation Lab is listed on its members page.
