Kenji Kajiwara, Professor
0 student voices
Professor Kenji Kajiwara researches the theory of integrable systems and the generation of geometric shapes using discrete differential geometry. In integrable systems, the lab has pursued algebraic and geometric studies of the Painlevé equations and discrete Painlevé equations, and their applications. In discrete differential geometry, based on the theory of discrete integrable systems, the lab studies the theory of deformations of discrete curves and the theory of discrete surfaces. As an application, the lab develops theory and implementations for generating "beautiful" shapes, in collaboration with researchers in architectural design, industrial design, and computational geometry.

Associate Professor Atsushi Tero's lab uses mathematical models to study the mechanisms of behavior and intelligence in organisms. The professor's researcher information page lists a research topic in which the behavior of the true slime mold, a multinucleate single-celled organism, is described by model equations and reproduced on a computer. It also lists a topic on understanding, through numerical experiments and experiments on real hardware, how the control of behavior arises from resonance between periodic movements such as walking and the body's internal state. The lab belongs to the Applied Theory Division of the Institute of Mathematics for Industry.

The Mathematical Modeling and Adaptive Networks Lab studies the behavior and intelligence of living things using mathematical models. The lab describes the behavior of single-celled organisms such as true slime molds with equations and reproduces it on a computer to explore the origins of intelligence. Another research theme is how behavior is controlled, approached through the relationship between periodic movements such as walking and the body's internal state. The lab is part of the Applied Theory Division at the Institute of Mathematics for Industry.
