Statistical Science and Small Area Estimation Lab (Masayo Hirose)
Machine-translated · View original
A lab that studies statistics for estimating values for small subdivisions from survey data.
AboutAbout the lab
Estimating values for each subdivision with statistical models.
Associate Professor Masayo Hirose's lab studies statistical small area estimation, which estimates characteristic values for each small subdivision from survey data.
The lab studies, from both theoretical and applied perspectives, estimation methods that use statistical models to help improve statistical accuracy.
In recent years, the importance of EBPM has been recognized, and expectations are also growing for planning based on an understanding of actual conditions in each subdivision.
The research keywords are statistical science, small area estimation, and mixed-effects models.
Key terms
- Small area estimation
- A method that uses statistical models to estimate characteristic values for each small subdivision from survey data
- EBPM
- Evidence-Based Policy Making: making policy on the basis of evidence
ResearchResearch themes
When estimating characteristic values for each subdivision from survey data, the lab studies methods that use statistical models to help improve estimation accuracy. It aims to use these estimation methods to produce high-quality, useful evidence, and to connect that evidence to useful planning.
