Naemura Lab
Machine-translated · View original
The lab creates information media that enrich people's minds, drawing on everything from optical design and machine learning to dialogue design.

AboutAbout the lab
From theory building and system implementation to psychological experiments and artistic expression.
Naemura Lab studies information media that bring richness to people's minds.
Working mainly in the fields of human interface and virtual reality, the lab builds on optical design, circuit implementation, machine learning, and dialogue design that encourages people to act.
Beyond developing theories and implementing systems, the lab evaluates the new experiences these systems create for people through psychological experiments, and connects them to artistic expression.
In addition to publishing papers, the lab also puts effort into demo exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including exhibitions for the general public.
Key terms
- Human Interface
- Mechanisms for exchanging information between people and computers, including screens and methods of operation.
- Augmented Reality
- A technology that overlays computer-generated images and information on how the real world looks. Also called AR.
- CSCW
- A research field on using computers to support collaboration and discussion among people (Computer-Supported Cooperative Work).

ResearchResearch themes
Through research on information media in which matter, information, and people connect with one another, the lab aims to open up science and technology that bring richness to the mind. It works on three research areas, namely physical control, information processing, and dialogue design, as well as research that cuts across them.
*Illustrative imageAugmented Reality and Cyber-Physical Systems
This research area uses optical design and circuit implementation to control physical phenomena, blending the real world with the world of information and building information environments that make use of real objects and the human body.
*Illustrative imageComputer Vision and Graphics
This research area uses machine learning such as deep learning, together with light field theory, to achieve robust and practical image recognition and image synthesis with the same quality as real photographs.
*Illustrative imageHuman Interface and CSCW
This research area works on dialogue design that encourages people to act, with goals such as generating lively discussion through information sharing that takes privacy into account.
