Advanced Networking Lab
Machine-translated · View original
A lab that studies networks and cybersecurity.

AboutAbout the lab
Studying the systems that connect, and the systems that protect.
The Advanced Networking Lab (Prof. Koji Okamura) takes next-generation network technologies, cybersecurity, and energy-efficient network operation technologies as its research themes.
The lab covers networks that connect computers to one another, from fundamental technologies to practical operation and international applications.
Prof. Okamura has carried out research as a core member of the Kyushu GigaPOP Project (QGPOP), which was established in Fukuoka.
In the graduate school, Prof. Okamura teaches courses such as Advanced Information Networks in the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, and in the undergraduate program, courses such as Information Networks in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Key terms
- Next-generation networks
- Network technologies of the next generation. This lab focuses on virtual networks, new data switching, and energy-efficient operation
- Cybersecurity
- Technologies and efforts to protect computers and networks from attacks and unauthorized use
- Telemedicine
- Medical care delivered by connecting doctors and medical institutions in distant locations through communication such as high-definition video
ResearchResearch themes
The lab works on both fundamental network technologies and their practical operation and international applications. Its research themes are next-generation network technologies, cybersecurity, and energy-efficient network operation technologies.
*Illustrative imageNext-Generation Network Technologies
The lab studies virtual network technologies and new data switching technologies in next-generation networks. Results are submitted to and presented at international conferences.
*Illustrative imageCybersecurity
This research concerns cybersecurity countermeasures. In its papers, the lab addresses methods that use machine learning to extract information useful for countermeasures from social media, and methods for dealing with attacks that exploit zero-day information.
*Illustrative imageEnergy-Efficient Network Operation
The lab studies technologies that reduce power consumption in network operation. It explores energy saving in communication equipment from the perspective of operating next-generation networks.
*Illustrative imageInternational Telemedicine
In collaboration with Kyushu University Hospital and others, the lab has worked on demonstrations of telemedicine using high-definition video. Together with medical institutions around the world, it has succeeded in advanced case-study experiments.

Ratings and reviews reflect the experiences of individual current or former students, not the lab's official views. Whether a lab has reviews, or how many, says nothing about the lab itself.
Students who take part in an interview may receive a thank-you gift worth ¥1,000, regardless of what they say.
